Toledo

The Toledo area, including Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan, offers the amenities of larger cities without sacrificing the advantages of a small town atmosphere. Located on the banks of the Maumee River at the western end of Lake Erie, Toledo is the crossroads of the nation. Two of the nation's largest highways meet in northwestern Ohio (I-75 and I-80/90) and Toledo is also one of the busiest ports on the Great Lakes. In addition, Toledo has its own Toledo Express Airport and is located less than an hour from the Detroit Airport, making it an excellent place to call home base for those that like to travel. There's also no shortage of day or weekend trips just a short drive from Toledo, such as Cedar Point, Put-In-Bay, and Kelly's Island.

Best of all, the Toledo area is a great place to raise a family! The real estate market is very affordable relative to other metro areas, yet the area boasts excellent public and private school systems, health care, entertainment, recreation, and cultural diversity.

In addition, there is plenty to do here, no matter your interests or hobbies. The Toledo Museum of Art and the Toledo Zoo rank among the finest in the nation. The Toledo Metropark system boasts over 8,000 acres of natural habitat throughout 19 different parks and a variety of different special use areas, parks, water, and exercise trails. Fifth Third Field, home of the Toledo Mud Hens baseball team, has been rated as the finest ballpark in all of minor league baseball. The Huntington Center is the home of the Toledo Walleye hockey games as well as a large concert and event venue.

Thirty-three colleges, universities, and community colleges are situated within 60 miles, as well as nine hospitals. Toledo's own University of Toledo has a current enrollment of roughly 15,000 students, who have been from around 40 different states and 105 countries. UT competes in Division I NCAA athletics in the Mid American Conference, which is actually a part of Toledo's culture.

Toledo offers plenty of opportunities and jobs for its residents. Some of the biggest employers are Dana Incorporated, Owens Corning, the University of Toledo, ProMedica Health Systems, and Mercy Health. Jeep is headquartered in Toledo, where a variety of models are also manufactured. Libbey Glass is also headquartered here, which ties in with Toledo's nickname, "Glass City." Its nickname is a nod to its historical significance in the glass manufacturing world, a title that is proudly remembered and celebrated today! Various theories surround the origin of another Toledo phrase, "Holy Toledo." Some believe it has something to do with its sister city, Toledo, Spain, which was the first sister city relationship established in the United States.

Nationally recognized icons such as Jeep, Mud Hens, and Tony Packo's hot dogs, natural resources like Lake Erie, and attractions like the Toledo Zoo and Toledo Museum of Art give Toledo its identity, and combine to make the Toledo area a great place to live, learn, work, and play!
