Toledo's own University of Toledo has a current enrollment of roughly 15,000 students, who have been from around 40 different states and 105 countries. UT competes in Division I NCAA athletics in the Mid American Conference, which is actually a part of Toledo's culture.

Toledo offers plenty of opportunities and jobs for its residents. Some of the biggest employers are Dana Incorporated, Owens Corning, the University of Toledo, ProMedica Health Systems, and Mercy Health. Jeep is headquartered in Toledo, where a variety of models are also manufactured. Libbey Glass is also headquartered here, which ties in with Toledo's nickname, "Glass City." Its nickname is a nod to its historical significance in the glass manufacturing world, a title that is proudly remembered and celebrated today! Various theories surround the origin of another Toledo phrase, "Holy Toledo." Some believe it has something to do with its sister city, Toledo, Spain, which was the first sister city relationship established in the United States.
